Overview
The Paro Tsechu Tour by Highland Expeditions is a 6-day cultural immersion into the heart of Bhutan, timed to coincide with one of the country’s most spectacular and oldest religious festivals. The Paro Tsechu is a grand celebration of Bhutanese heritage, featuring vibrant mask dances, traditional music, and the unfurling of a giant Thangka (religious scroll) that is said to wash away the sins of all who view it.
This tour is designed as an “Easy” grade experience, making it ideal for families, photographers, and those who prefer a leisurely pace with high-quality cultural sightseeing. Beyond the festival, the itinerary covers the “Golden Triangle” of Bhutan—Paro, Thimphu, and Punakha—culminating in the iconic hike to the Tiger’s Nest Monastery.
Highlights
- Paro Tsechu Festival: Witness the rhythmic mask dances (Cham) and the deep spiritual devotion of the Bhutanese people during their most famous annual festival.
- The Tiger’s Nest (Taktsang): Embark on the legendary hike to the monastery that clings to a cliff $900$m above the Paro valley—Bhutan’s most recognizable landmark.
- Punakha Dzong: Visit the "Palace of Great Happiness," widely considered the most beautiful fortress-monastery in the country, situated at the confluence of two rivers.
- Dochula Pass: Experience a 360-degree panoramic view of the Eastern Himalayas, including the unclimbed Gangkhar Puensum, framed by $108$ memorial stupas.
- Cultural Immersion: Engage with local traditions through visits to the National Library, Folk Heritage Museum, and a traditional handmade paper factory.
