Overview

Island Peak climbing with Everest Base Camp Trek is a fantastic experience in the Himalayas of Nepal. It is designed for energetic and physically fit trekkers with little or no experience in mountain expedition. Island Peak (6,189m/20,305ft) is one of the main climbing peaks in the Everest Region of Nepal with an impressive and highly glaciated West Face that rises from the Lhotse Glacier. Being one of the ‘trekking peaks’ with very little technical aspects, Island Peak is not a difficult undertaking for a beginner climber wishing to enter the incredible world of mountain climbing. Hundreds of climbers flock to Nepal every year to get a permit for Island Peak climbing. Our adventure also takes us into the heartland of the Khumbu Valley and Sherpa culture. Before scaling the peak, we also visit, possibly the most popular trekking destination in the world – Everest Base Camp (5,357m/17,575ft) and Kala Patthar – for the up-close views of Mt. Everest and other high mountains.

The Island Peak Climbing Itinerary has proper and gradual acclimatization at suitable intervals. The 19-day journey begins from and comes to a conclusion at one of the most famous airstrips in the world, the Lukla Airport in the Everest Region.

MEALS
During our trip, we can enjoy Nepali, Tibetan, Indian as well as the more common continental cuisines. Breakfast(only) will be provided during your stay in Kathmandu whereas all meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) will be available during the trek and climb. While trekking, breakfast will be taken in the same place we stay the night. Similar arrangements can also be made for dinner. Lunch will be taken en route to the next destination. During the climbing session, hygienic freshly cooked food will be provided. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners in Kathmandu.
ACCOMMODATION
We will be accommodated in Kathmandu (3 nights), standard teahouses during trekking (12 nights), and tents when climbing (3 nights). Most teahouse accommodation will only have shared toilet facilities. For tent accommodation, a foam mattress will be made available. In the climbing section, toilet facilities will be provided with necessary natural preservation. All accommodation is on a twin-shared basis. However, a single room will be provided on request and by paying a single supplement price. Also, understand that there are several places that do not allow single room accommodation. On paying a single supplement, you will get a single room in Kathmandu but sometimes it is feasible only up to Namche Bazaar. Above Namche Bazaar single accommodation is not always feasible.

Trekking and climbing of Island Peak in October 2021

We have just returned from Nepal; our trip was wonderful. Superb approach trekking in the Khumbu valley and ascent of Island Peak perfectly supported by the team. We were lucky enough to reach the top and thank Vertical Himalaya for organizing this expedition. Everything was perfect: the welcome on our arrival, the choice of lodges and the itinerary, the kindness and helpfulness of the guides and porters, the competence of our climbing Sherpa ... We hope to come back next year for a new ascent with the Vertical Himalaya team! Jean-Michel and Mara (Belgium)
