Overview

Chulu Far East, 6059m, is considered the most straightforward of the three Chulu Peaks, however, the typical Chulu Far East Peak expedition includes the popular Thorang La pass to add to the overall adventure.

Chulu Far East Peak at 6059 meters is the easiest of the three Chulu peaks, though by no means easy. A grueling climb to the summit can be reached from base camp, or a high camp can be used. There is a steep walk in snow up to the col at 5500m. Climbing Sherpas will fix ropes for the steeper sections. There is a small serac just below the summit ridge. The summit is fairly exposed. The summit view is similar to Chulu East Peak.

The Chulu Far East Expedition follows the route of the Annapurna CircuitTrekking and begins in the fertile low lands of Marshyandi Valley, at Besisahar, and climbs along the river to reach the remote village of Chame. After ascending Chulu Far East, we descend to Manang and continue the Annapurna Circuit trail leading to Yak Kharka, Leather, Phedi, and High camp before crossing the Thorang La Pass 5416m.

After having breakfast at Chame, our trekking and climbing adventure starts. We will follow a steep trail that goes through dense pine forest as we enter into higher altitudes. Day 7: Acclimatization Day at Julu Khola

By now we have reached over 3500 meters above sea level so acclimatization is very essential to avoid mental and physical sickness and to ensure a successful summit climb of Chulu Far East Peak. Hence, today we take a rest day for acclimatization and exploration. Besides, Juju Khola offers a couple of good hiking options which is considered best for acclimatization.

Day 8: Trek from Julu Khola to Chulu Far East Base Camp [5000

After spending a good day rest for acclimatization at Julu Khola our trail is a steep climb all the way to a good campsite where we will set up our Base Camp. Our trek goes through rugged rocky trails that can be very tiring. So resting every now and then is an good idea which also helps to restore energy. Once at the Base Camp our crew will set up the camp and make the necessary preparations for shifting the camps into higher altitudes before attempting the main summit climb of Chulu Far East Peak.

Day 9: Acclimatization Day at Chulu Far East Base Camp

Today we will take one more day rest at the base camp as acclimatization is very essential to ensure a successful summit climb of Chulu Far East Peak. So, we will spend our day acclimatizing and exploring around the base camp. From the base camp we can enjoy magnificent views of high mountain valleys, Annapurna Himalayan Ranges and other surrounding chains of high mountains.

Day 10: Trek from Base Camp to Chulu Far East High Camp

After spending a full day rest at the base camp for acclimatization, we leave our base camp and follow a rather difficult trail that climbs steeply through snow slopes. Using our crampons we keep going with panoramic views of Annapurna Himalayan Ranges, Pisang Peak, Chulu East, Chulu West, Chulu Far East and several snow-capped high peaks. After few hours of a tiring climb, we will arrive at a good campsite where we will set up our High Camp. Our Sherpa crew will set up the camps and make final checks on our climbing gears before the main summit climb, the following day.

Day 11: Summit Chulu Far East Peak [6059m/19874ft]

Today is the day we all have been desperately waiting for. Fully acclimatized and properly equipped with all the climbing gears we start early with the aim to reach the summit before noon, as the strong winds after midday can create obstacles in reaching the summit.

Following the guidance and instruction for our experienced climbing experts we will overcome several technical sections and head towards the summit. Our tiring climb to the summit is rewarded with breathtaking views of the Annapurna Himalayan Ranges, and Gangapurna, Manaslu, Pisang and several snow-capped mountain peaks. We will spend a short but quality time at the summit and then descend following the same route back, to reach base camp again.

Day 12: Trek from Chulu Far East Base Camp to Manang

Having successfully achieving our target – the summit of Chulu Far East Peak, we begin our return journey which is a decent downhill trekking all the way to Manang. With fantastic views of surrounding snow capped peaks we head towards Manang valley. Manang is well known for its rich culture and tradition. We will have opportunity to experience the traditional lifestyle of the local Manangi people while exploring around the village of Manang.

Day 14: Trek from Siri Kharka to Tilicho Base Camp

We leave Siri Kharka and continue on our trek by following a trail that is mostly downhill journey. Our trail in some sections is very narrow and through landslide affected areas. From Tilicho Lake we follow the trail that ascends gradually towards Mesokanto La Pass at 5120 meters. The crossing of Mesokanto Pass is considered difficult and challenging with around four hours of trek to reach the top of the pass. From the top of the pass we descend gently and make our entry into Mustang District. There are no tea houses and lodges available in this area, so our crew will set up the camps in the open and flat pasture grounds of Yak Kharka for the overnight stay.

The last day of our trek heads from Yak Kharka and descends for few hours to reach the village Marpha, also known as the Apple Garden. We will spend rest of the day sightseeing around the beautiful valley of Pokhara. Pokhara is home to thick forest, emerald lakes and a place of remarkable natural beauty. The reflection of the Machhapuchre (Fish-Tail) over the serene Fewa Lake makes this place truly magical. Besides, boating at Fewa Lake, visiting sacred places and sightseeing around the city is a good way to spend your day at Pokhara.
